and so it begins…

A story. Not just our story. Not just someone else’s story. But a combination of the two.

An adventure. Not a thrill seeking, adrenaline-junky type of adventure. But an adventure to be sure.

An investment. Not just a monetary investment. And not just an investment of time. But an investment in family. An investment in other people. Hopefully, an investment in you.

An opportunity to do something different. Something a little crazy. Maybe a little risky. But with a reward that can’t be measured.

This adventure officially began over a year ago, when our family decided to to ditch the comforts of corporate America to take a 48 state, 52 week tour of the United States. We called it epoch48, and you can read about it at epoch48.com. We were two weeks into the trip, soaking up some sun at a campground in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, when my wife and I looked at each other. We were thinking the same thing. But it would be a crazy new thing for us. But we knew we could do it. We could run a place like this. Low stress. Nature surrounding us. Great people. No boardrooms. No rush hour. Perfect!

But we kind of let it go. Nearly 30 weeks and 30 states later, we decided to really look into buying a campground. We had found two and even made a “quick” trip from Kentucky back to Colorado to check them out. One fell through before we even left… We made an unofficial offer on another. Nothing worked out, but we knew that we were on the right track.

Unable to find a campground in Colorado, we began looking for land to build our own campground. It was during that search that we came across the Historic Crescent Ranch Resort. I must have looked at it online five to ten times before I ever even showed it to my wife. She probably looked at it the same number of times before we decided to make a move. We made a few calls. Made an offer. Got a counter and promptly pulled our offer.

We found out that you can’t do a deal for land while you are on the road. So, after much debate, we decided to cut our 48 state trip short. Very bittersweet. But as time went on, we knew it was the right decision. We promptly put our home up for sale and after a few months – here we are. In Divide, Colorado. 9200 feet above sea level. The gateway to so much beauty and adventure. Wow!

And, in a home that is barely livable – but unquestionably exciting. The story. The adventure. The investment. All coming together very rapidly. And very soon we hope to invite you to be apart of the story. To be a part of the adventure. To let us invest in you.

But for now, it has only just begin. We have running water. And heat. And a few new windows in. Much more work is ahead, but the future is bright! Stay tuned – much more to come!
